Doctor Strange

You wonder what I see in your future? Possibility.

Yup, Marvel’s Doctor Strange is coming, and they picked the best actor for the role, Benedict Cumberbatch.

You want to go see that movie.

For those of you not familiar with Doctor Strange back-story: Stephen Strange is a selfish, arrogant, and super-talented neurosurgeon; his hands are obviously super important to him as a surgeon. One day, he gets into a car accident, his hands are badly damaged, and he can’t perform surgeries anymore. He searches for a cure for a long time, until he finds The Ancient One, one of the most powerful sorcerers there is. The Ancient One becomes his mentor, until one day Strange becomes Sorcerer Supreme. Magic!

Marvel is really killing it lately:

  • Several movies, exploring different heroes and stories of the Marvel universe, including some superheroes that we might not have thought worthy of a movie before (Ant-Man, Vision, …);
  • Movies featuring anti-heroes, like Deadpool or Guardians of the Galaxy;
  • A tie-in show (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) getting popular enough to last for 3 seasons;
  • A tie-in show linked to that tie-in show (Agent Carter);
  • 2 seasons of Daredevil, featuring the Punisher;
  • Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and the Iron Fist getting their own shows;
  • The Defenders, bringing them all together;
  • And now, Doctor Strange!

I can’t wait to see that movie.

Cinema: Predestination – twisted and good

Yes, I’ve just watched a movie about time travel that won’t be released until next month. Magic!*

Adri and I just watched Predestination, and I must say I was happily surprised. I expected a boring thriller / action movie, but both main actors (Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook) really made this movie interesting. Time travel movies are always interesting because of that interesting twist about manipulating the past to change the future (think Looper, or Minority Report), and Predestination definitely walks on that same path. Don’t fall asleep if you want to follow the plot! :)
I won’t say more not to give any spoilers; I will just say that you should go see it when it comes out in cinemas!

  • The movie was originally released back in August in Australia :)

Cinema: Interstellar

Interstellar is scheduled to be released on November 7 of this year, and looks very promising. Directed by Christopher Nolan (Inception, the last Batman trilogy), starring Michael Caine, and Matthew McConaughey as an engineer sent to space to find us a new home: need I say more?

I really like Matthew McConaughey: I discovered him in The Lincoln Lawyer, and I saw him again in True Detective earlier this year. His accent and his rough looks make him a good fit for such roles, and if the movie is as good as the trailer, he’ll be great in Interstellar too!

If you need to see more, here is the first teaser trailer that was released a couple of months ago.

Cinema: Guardians of the Galaxy

Another Marvel movie to add to my “To Watch” list. I don’t know anything about “Guardians of the Galaxy”, so I’ll have some reading to do before to see the movie.

This seems a bit different from the other movies in the franchise but since The Collector makes a small appearance in the trailer, I assume this movie will make the connection between The Collector, Thanos, and the Avengers. Plus, an angry racoon? What can go wrong with that? :)

Can’t wait!

Cinema: About Time

I love Bill Nighy, and when I saw the plotline of About Time, I knew I would like the movie:

At the age of 21, Tim discovers he can travel in time and change what happens and has happened in his own life. His decision to make his world a better place by getting a girlfriend turns out not to be as easy as you might think.

I didn’t expect the movie to be so good, though. More than just another sci-fi or romance movie, it’s a celebration of life, an invitation to live your life to the fullest, as if every day would be the last.

You should see that movie. I promise you’ll enjoy it!
