Cinema: The Dark Tower

I’m really looking forward to watching this movie! Stephen King’s Dark Tower is one of my favourite epic stories, and I really like both Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey.

We knew from the start that the movie would be very different from the books. How could anyone hope to reproduce a story spread across 8 huge novels, picks elements from several other Stephen King novels, and mixes different worlds and times?

So instead of trying (and failing) to adapt the books into a movie, they decided to build a new story, picking elements from each book, and imagining a new journey to the Dark Tower for Roland. I think that’s a clever way to approach this movie, while not disappointing all the fans who’ve been waiting for this story for years.

I will miss the dynamics between Eddie, Susannah, Roland, and Jake though; The Drawing of the Three and The Wastelands are probably my favourite books in the series, and I don’t think those books will really make it to the movie. But I’m sure we’ll get hints to keep us fans happy. :) In fact, you can see a door in one of the teasers posted by the actors on Twitter yesterday:

Any fans of The Dark Tower reading this post? What do you think of the trailer?

Oooh, I like it! I’m looking forward to seeing it now as I have seen the trailer! And yeah, it’s a good thing that they chose to reconstruct the story. I won’t be able to handle another attempt at adapting a long novel into a crappy short film like Hearts in Atlantis, for example.
Also, I didn’t know you were a Stephen King fan :)
