On Repeat Today: Heart-Shaped Box cover, Westworld OST

I really enjoyed watching the first season of Westworld last year: it was original, well acted, full of suspense, photography was great, … And the soundtrack was great. There were some great original piano pieces; the main theme gives me goosebumps. The composer Ramin Djawadi also chose to cover popular songs from Radiohead, Soundgarden, or The Rolling Stones, and those were great.

It looks like this will continue in Season 2: the trailer used a beautiful cover of Nirvana’s Heart-Shaped Box that gives me goosebumps too!

Enjoy!

On Repeat Today: The Cranberries

I just learned that Dolores O’Riordan, singer of The Cranberries, just passed away. It’s such a big part of my childhood: I discovered music with them, it was the first CD I got when I bought my first hi-fi. I think I’ll be listening to them quite a bit in the next few days.

On Repeat Today: Kraak & Smaak

My wife and I discovered Kraak & Smaak about 10 years ago and loved it. So when we learnt that they would be in Budapest at Akvárium Klub, we had to be there!

The whole set was great, but I really liked their take on I Feel Love by Donna Summer. Since it turns out they had already played this the last time they were in Budapest, you can enjoy it too! :)

On Repeat Today: Le Peuple de l’Herbe

Le Peuple De L'Herbe has always been something I enjoy listening to while working. Much like Asian Dub Foundation and other similar bands, the rhythm is perfect to get things done! Enjoy!

On Repeat Today: The Games You Play, Wax tailor feat. Voice

I think this would qualify as trip-hop? I love it. Wax tailor has been one of my go-to artists for a long time; whenever I want to get stuff done, it’s the best stuff to listen to.

The Games You Play is just one song though: I strongly recommend that you listen to more songs from him!

On Repeat Today: Chance The Rapper

Just one among many. I’ve been making my way through some of Chance The Rapper’s work (h/t CK!) and I must say it’s just the way I like it! Enjoy, and make sure to listen to a few more!

On Repeat Today: Yonderboi

It’s been a while since I shared the music I listen to on a loop while working. Let’s get back on that horse! Today, Yonderboi, especially his “Splendid Isolation” album and the “All We Go to Hell” track.

Yonderboi, aka Fogarasi László, happens to be Hungarian so I got to listen to him live a couple of times. I couldn’t really describe the kind of music he produces, so I’ll just let you enjoy it!

Yes, while you’re at it, listen to the whole album. :)

On Repeat Today: Ghosting — Reimagining Miyazaki

I don’t know much about anime, but I’ve always really enjoyed Hayao Miyazaki’s films. Nausicaä, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, are all films I want to show my daughter when she grows up. I like Miyazaki’s takes on the interactions between humans and nature, and his style in general.

So of course, when I discovered this mixtape with samples from all those movies, I jumped on it!

Enjoy.

On Repeat Today: Luna — The Man Who Sold The World

I discovered Luna Lee today; she plays a traditional Korean instrument named “Gayageum”, and her covers are simply amazing! Here is her take on Bowie’s The Man Who Sold The World (although I must confess I only knew Nirvana’s Unplugged version until today).

Enjoy, and make sure to visit her channel if you like the style!
